CONSULEGIS
The law firm of Schleifenbaum & Adler is a founding member of
Consulegis EWIV, a network having the legal form of a European economic interest grouping (EEIG) established in 1990. Its current members include around 90 law firms in about 40 countries and more than 140 cities. There are thus altogether more than 1600 lawyers from virtually all over the world networked together. A number of tax consultants and external auditors also belong to the organisation. Consulegis members must meet specified quality standards as a pre-requisite for acceptance as members. Most Consulegis partners, like Schleifenbaum & Adler, are medium-sized.
Representatives of the law firms which are members of
Consulegis EWIV generally meet twice a year in Europe or elsewhere on Consulegis partner premises. In addition, a number of special events are also staged by the organisation, most of them at the international level. Schleifenbaum & Adler regularly sends a number of delegates to these various meetings. Hence many of the lawyers working for other Consulegis partners are personal acquaintances of the members of Schleifenbaum & Adler. Close relationships have developed with a number of our European, Canadian and American colleagues over the years.
Partly as a result of its membership in Consulegis, Schleifenbaum & Adler is regularly involved in exchanging briefs on a national and international basis, particularly when issues of German law and the satisfaction of claims in Germany are involved. It is particularly important to Schleifenbaum & Adler that membership in Consulegis makes it possible to rely on the support of the international Consulegis partners when cases of its own clients have an international aspect. In such situations cooperation may range from seeking an expert opinion on issues involving foreign law to providing legal counsel and representation in contract negotiations, legal and arbitration proceedings and enforcement measures in other countries. Through our collaboration with Consulegis partners who are we personally know, we are able to provide qualified legal counselling and representation in other countries. In many cases the specialist at Schleifenbaum & Adler is able to assess on the basis of his or her own knowledge who would be the best counsel to defend interests in another country, perhaps because he or she knows the corresponding Consulegis partner personally or has had actual experience working with the Consulegis partner on other cases. Membership in
Consulegis EWIV also places Schleifenbaum & Adler in a position to combine the personal service of a medium-sized law firm with the professional, practical and extensive supra-regional and international services typical of a large organisational structure.
